~ Montpelier & Gilmore Cabin

We went to James and Dolley Madison’s house yesterday.  The fourth U.S. President’s Montpelier home is in Orange, Virginia.  We toured the homes and garden and the kids had some hands-on work churning butter, grating cinnamon and using colonial tools.   Unfortunately no picture-taking was allowed in the house.  Oh, a question for all of you out there–do you remember Dolly Madison snack cakes?  They used to sponsor the Peanuts cartoon specials.  My hubby remembers Dolly Madison ice cream but I only remember the snack cakes.  If you remember either one, let me know. =)

After touring the Montepelier home, we stopped by Gilmore Cabin– an original house that a family of emancipated slaves built and lived in.  There was plenty inside and out to take still life photos of.

The flowers in the slideshow below are from the trip with several shots from around my neighborhood.  I hope to post a papercraft project soon. =)

  1. Looks like you had great weather this weekend, too! Don’t remember the ice cream, but definitely the snack cakes since I always watched the Peanuts specials. Great pix!

  2. Very nice! I can’t believe how big the kids are getting. Yes, I remember the Peanuts’ snacks. 🙂 Mmmmm. Zingers!
