~ “Made with Scraps” BIA Minibook

While I was thinning out my collection of paper this weekend to give to a friend, I had amassed a pile of scraps, not worthy enough of sharing in current-state.   I saw a lot of similarities in the colors and patterns.  Instead of throwing the scraps away, I challenged myself to create one project using the bits of paper – married similar styles of different manufacturers – to make this little minibook.

I’ll eventually make another project using other scraps in the coming weeks.  Come by again to check it out.

~ Farewell to Me!

Here is my latest Bind-it-All project, a farewell book (for me, actually) that my NAVFAC co-workers from all over the world added their farewell messages in.  Some of the well-wishes were added in person while some were emailed and added to the book.

What is really great about creating a project for yourself is that you can make anything you want it to be.  I added little strips inside to show where I have been and when with Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

~ Parting Gifts

So, this is my last week at my current job.  Far be it for me not to have one last share of my craftiness before I go.  I made candy goody bags for the co-workers in MILCON and special bags with extra stuff for my branch.  I wanted to make use of my latest Fiskars punch in my projects since I wasn’t able to teach a class using it. =(  We have a long-standing “purple Thursday” in MILCON so I had custom buttons made by the awesome Emily Adams.

The bags below are filled with other good stuff are what I’m giving to the ladies in my branch.  There is a prolific amount of lilac and honeydew twine from The Twinery, which I totally love!  The bags were 59 cent gift bags I bought from Target and embellished.

Goody bag supplies:

  • flat plastic bags, Dum Dums, Smarties, Kit Kats
  • My Mind’s Eye – patterned paper
  • The Twinery – twine
  • Tim Holtz – mini staples
  • Emily Adams – custom buttons

Gift bag supplies:

  • Fancy Pants – patterned paper
  • The Twinery – twine

~ Blizzard Wall Art

I guess the one good thing about being snowed-in is that you have plenty of time to watch movies, cook, bake and make crafts.  My daughter has been doing the baking while I’ve been cooking and crafting.

Here is a project that uses an origami frame as a wall hanging instead of binding together into a book.  I used an untraditional scrapbooking item for the project — comic book backing boards — as the base of my project.  Why not?  They’re light chipboard and acid-free.

If you’d like the instructions on how to make the origami frame, go to the bottom of this post.  Please let me know if you use the instructions and make a project of your own.

Click here for a PDF of how to make the origami frame.

~ BIA Scalloped Minibook

It was high time that I got to crafting something that wasn’t related to a retirement or farewell luncheon.  I’ve probably made four of “those” types of books in a span of just a few months.  Enough of the departing already!  So, here is a happy book — I took scalloped chipboard pages, lopped off one of the sides to make an even edge and turned them into a cute little book.  Instead of doing the more work-intensive covering and sanding of pages, I opted for painting the chipboard and covering with two different sizes of patterned paper circles.

Stuff:  Zutter – 1″ white o-wire; Stampin’ Up! – scalloped chipboard, ink, ribbon; My Mind’s Eye – patterned paper; K & Company – embossed sticker; Prima – flowers; Doodlebug – gems

~ BIA Halloween Minibooks & Matchbook Cards

DSCN0922

Here are my latest BIA Halloween projects.  I will be sending these off to my brothers and sis-in-law to fill with pictures of their kids this year.  The My Mind’s Eye paper is sooo cute.

I used the same line  for my card class this past week.  Here are the samples I made for the class to follow.  These will be given to my hubby’s co-workers.

~ WCMD Challenge

DSCN0790_small

I issued a World Card Making Day Challenge in the Zutter Zisters Ning Board earlier this month.  Here is the card I made for inspiration.  The only requirements were (1) it was a card or card-like project and (2) that it used Zutter products.

 DSCN0784_small

Run-down on how I made this card –Instead of using the Canvas Cover, which I thought was a bit too thick for a card projects, I tore off the canvas from the cover itself.  I inked the canvas with two shades of orange and two shades of green then crumpled it up and inked a little bit more.  The patterned papers were sewn onto the canvas.  Once all of the other sewing details were added, I added the canvas to the Acrylic Cover with rivets.  Rub-ons, flower and foam letters were added and the ribbon was the last addition.  The little pocket will hold a tag and gift card.

Stuff:  Zutter Innovative/Bind-it-All – Acrylic Cover, Canvas Cover, rivets; My Mind’s Eye – patterned paper; Prima – flowers; American Crafts – foam letters; Making Memories – rub-ons; We R Memory Keepers – large eyelet; Stampin’ Up! – ink; eFavor – ribbon

~ Monja & Casey

I have a bridal shower to go to this weekend and I wanted to give my friend, Monja, something completely different than the usual housewares gifts people usually give at showers.  In addition to the Victoria’s Secret gift card I got her, I made this 8″ x 10″ book with simple patterned paper-covered pages for her to save some of her pre-wedding memories.

~ Mini Minibook, More Surgery News and Twilight

our-family-002

This little book is probably the littlest one I’ve ever made.  It measures about 3 1/2″ square.  I might actually make more of these to give to my hubby’s family members at a family reunion next month.  Clear Scraps has the cutest little kits now with chipboard and acrylic pieces.  I sandwiched the tabbed chipboard pieces with matching acrylic covers.  I printed the photos in wallet size and trimmed them just a bit.

Just another week ’til the Twilight DVD comes out!  AAAAAAHHHH!  I’m so excited I can’t stand it.  Even my 10 year old son is looking forward to the Hot Topic DVD release party next Friday.  (So excited!)

Alrighty, for the more unsavory news–I need to have my gallbladder taken out.  I didn’t realize the various pains I had been experiencing for months now were all related to gallstones in my gallbladder.  Geez.  Anyway, I’ll post something again about it after I meet with the surgeon next week.

One last thing!  If you’d like to join my class on the All Moments Remembered member board, please sign-up before March 30.  If you are unable to make it, just drop me a line and I’ll send you the PDF file with full directions, supply and tool list.  Send your email to leasanders@yahoo.com with the subject line “Living Simply PDF”.

~ One more 2009 Calendar!

placeholder-028

Okay, so I just had to post one more project before I get on the plane tomorrow at the wee hours of the morning. (hee hee–I’m a blogging fool!)  I love making calendars and the BIA makes it so easy to make a so-so run-of-the-mill project look outstanding!  This one is a 5″ x7.5″ project utilitzing the clipboard wood covers as the base and two different size o-wires to create the structure holding the calendar pages.  I added  pictures from 2008 to each month.  This calendar is a gift for my husband. =)

~ Winter-Themed BIA Flipbook for a Gentleman

winter-book-003

Here is another quick BIA gift.  This one is for my husband’s co-worker, a Marine officer.  I couldn’t very well make him a girly-book, so this is filled with masculine colors and a deer winter-theme throughout.  No extra flourishes were needed–the rivets and glittered highlights throughout the patterned paper were enough!  Unlike my previous double flipbook (Halloween), this one is a single set of flipbook pages.  If you would like directions on how to assemble a flipbook, click here to go to my previous post.

This little book is another 4″ x 4″ project that I made from scraps of leftover paper and several sets of Zutter Innovative covers – acrylic and chipboard.  All of the chipboard is inked along the edges to give them a snowy look.
