~ Retirement Book for Our Admiral

DSCN5565_edited-2

Alas, all good things come to an end.  Our big boss will be leaving us for the leisurely life of retirement.  This is a project I made for the office to add the their well-wishes for RDML David Boone.  The pages are covered in a combination of desert and chocolate chip cookie camo, Washington D.C. and Navy-themed patterned papers.  The retirement ceremony is on April 12, so I fixed the clock hands at 4:12.  Not sure anyone will that subtle details but we’ll see. =)

~ Greeting Card Gift Set & Minibook Teaser

This weekend I made a set of six cards for a co-worker as part of a going away present.  She expressed interest in the color orange at the last card class I taught at work so there is a bit of orange in both the cards and the envelopes.  I also made a small pockets and tags Bind-it-All minibook that I’ll show a sneak peek of below.  Please come back another day to see a full post on the minibook sometime next month or so. =)

{opened card}

Just finished making a sample card for my first class at work since moving to our newly renovated spaces.  It will be nice to teach another class as it has been months since the last one!  I got the idea for this card from a similar one I saw at Queen’s Ink at Savage Mill.  This is also my first project using Timeless Twine product.  So cute!

BIA 12 Days of Christmas – Calendar

I’m the lucky Zister who gets to post her project on Thanksgiving for the eighth day of Christmas! =)  My project is a desktop calendar but any calendar project using the BIA or Zutter products will do.  I’ve included pictures of what the base looks like before assembly along with pictures of the two calendar projects I made for both set of grandparents.  If you’d like to use my calendar JPEGs, click on this link – 2010 Calendar Months – for months showing the U.S. Federal Holidays.  If you’d prefer an editable Excel version, drop me an email and put “2010 Calendar Months” in the subject line.

The road to recovery from my ACL reconstruction has been a sore but not -so-long journey.  I have great physical therapists and assistants who have helped me week after week.  Soon my time with them will come to an end so I wanted to make them a little parting gift to thank each of them for the time they’ve spent with me.  Here are the ones I finished today.  Four down, five to go.

~ 4th of July BIA Minibooks

July 4th M&J 002

I had so much fun on July 4th weekend that I wanted to share the memories with my two brothers and their families.  Here are a couple of 5″ chipboard books I made using the Bind-it-All (of course!), a tabbed chipboard album (that I split to make two books out of one) and pictures I took of the family.  A larger book I made for my parents will be posted to the Zutter Zisters site and on my blog at the end of July, so come back and take a peek then.

~ Cosmo Cricket – BIA Teabag Pocket Book

CC 0180007

Thanks to Annette, one of my Bind-it-All Design Team Zisters, for this cute idea.  My version is a little bigger (4″ x 5″) to accomodate foil-wrapper tea bags I meant to use in this project.  I used a smaller generic paper-wrapped Jasmine tea bag for the timebeing–didn’t have time to run to the grocery store for the Stash or Bigelow brands that I like.  This project is a book with four pockets, see the details in the photos below.  It would make a really cute holiday gift for co-workers or a small teacher’s gift.  I used the Girl Friday line for this little book.

There is no limit to the use of Cosmo Cricket’s various paper lines.  The projects above are bookmarks I made on the fly and the one below is of a 4″ x 6″ shadow box gift I made for my retiring co-worker, Diane.  I thought it would be cute to combine her baby picture in a gift I was making for her retirement.  She will be retiring from the government with as years as I’ve been alive!

I love the bright colors in the Early Bird line.  Paired with black and white photos, the colors “pop” in this 5″ square matchbook project.  This is an easy way to use leftover bits of patterened paper and embellishments.  The photos were resized for wallet prints.

~ Family Notebook & Twilight Loot

twlight-040

First, the crafty stuff — I wanted to try something different.  This is my first project using the Zutter canvas covers.  I was really apprehensive at first because I didn’t have any good ideas to emphasize the canvas texture.  I decided to ink it and after some aggressive inking and massaging some of the ink with my fingers into the cover, it took really well.  Maybe I’ll try painting them next time.  This book is meant to be a notebook or journal of sorts and is packed with pages.  The Prima stuff is great!  I’d never worked with their paper before–soooo pretty!

Second, Twilight loot and link back to my bud, Aimee’s blog (You have to check out her Twilight bracelet!) — Scored some great Twilight loot at Borders and Hot Topic yesterday on the info-sharing of a very good bud, Carolyn.  She told me that Waldenbooks had stickers and a pre-order calendar so I faithfully mosied to the mall to check it out.  I found the stickers and Twilight Sweethearts at Borders and the magnet set at Hot Topic.  Less than two weeks, Twi-fans, ’til the revelry of the DVD release and midnight parties.  I so can’t wait!

~ Twilight Minibook (and other Twi-related stuff…)

twlight-013

Here is my Twilight-inspired mini that I made for my daughter.   I got the good scoop via a FB post from Marah Johnson that Christine Adolph’s new line was perfect for a Twilight book.  You tell me–though it isn’t exactly pure to the black, white and red, I think the color scheme is great.  No sooner did I upload my photos to my computer, the book was gone!  Miranda ran off with it like a bandit.  Oh well!  I used the same Jolee’s beads from the Twilight bracelet I made earlier this month for embellishments on the o-wire.

On other Twilight-related news–guess who’s going to a Hot Topic Twilight Party at midnight on March 20.  Yes, that would be me!  I’ll be one of those crazy moms taking their daughters to the mall in the late hours of the night for Twilight-revelry and to pick up the Hot Topic offering of the DVD.  I also ordered the Borders version.  Looks like every “exclusive version” will have its own goodies.  I’ll bring my camera to capture all of the Hot Topic craziness.  Speaking of Hot Topic, look at what I found — bandages.  Like I’m ever going to open this tin.  NEVER!  Twilight movie count as of today — 25!  I can’t wait to get my DVD.

~ What I did during Christmas vacation and Blogversary RAK

lv1230-050

It’s been a great 10 days but alas, I return home tomorrow. I’m kinda glad though. Need to take a vacation from my vacation, if you know what I mean. Need to get back to my real life.  So, what did I do during my visit with my parents? Ate, cooked, ate, cooked, ate and in between that, I made a quick on-the-fly scrapbook for my parents without the benefit of all of my own materials and tools, just what I was able to scrounge up (toolwise) from my brother and a few buttons, some lace and a couple of punches I bought from Wal-Mart and Target specifically for the job.

The base pages in the scrapbook were something I made several years ago. My parents had it on their coffee table–empty. So, I took that and slapped the pictures and embellishments into it. Not bad for one day’s work.  There is a bit of yellow tinge in the copies of the layouts that I made due to taking photos of them indoors.  (My parents’  butter-yellow walls reflected a weird light.)

Stuff:  Daisy D’s – paper collection, stickers, rub-ons; Bazzill – cardstock; Stampin’ Up! – ribbon; buttons, lace

===============================================

vf-twilightOn a non-scrappy note, I ended up watching Twilight again (twice) at the movie theater first with my sis-in-law, daughter and niece and then second with my hubby.  And as if that wasn’t enough, I watched it albeit “bootleg” via an online link a (ah-hem) covert source provided to me another two times just last night!  Thanks, Carolyn!

Alrighty, down to business–just two weeks until my one year Blogversary.  Post a comment anywhere on my blog for a chance to receive a RAK.  I’ll take comments for the RAK until January 15, so post to your heart’s content.  I will announce the winner on Inauguration Day. =)

~ Winter-Themed BIA Flipbook for a Gentleman

winter-book-003

Here is another quick BIA gift.  This one is for my husband’s co-worker, a Marine officer.  I couldn’t very well make him a girly-book, so this is filled with masculine colors and a deer winter-theme throughout.  No extra flourishes were needed–the rivets and glittered highlights throughout the patterned paper were enough!  Unlike my previous double flipbook (Halloween), this one is a single set of flipbook pages.  If you would like directions on how to assemble a flipbook, click here to go to my previous post.

~ Mini Desk Calendar

Here is my first mini calendar using the Bind-it-All.  This one is 4 inches square.  I printed calendar months onto cardstock and trimmed to size and layered on the Mr. Campy Cosmo Cricket collection.  It could use some tweaking here and there (use not-too-heavy or thick cardstock for the pages, maybe not layer as much, use a larger o-ring for the bottom supports, smaller piece of cardstock to connect the bottoms of the chipboard, etc.)  I’ll use my lessons learned to make another one that will be posted on the Zutter site in November.

~ Monkey Fun

Here is a small project I made for my daughter’s welcoming home.  She’s coming home this week from her summer vacation with my parents in Las Vegas.  She had asked me to make a mini album for her with these monkey papers a while back and I just got around to making it for her.

I kept the book simple in design so that my daughter can easily add photos or other keepsakes to it without much fuss.

Stuff:  patterned paper – Reminisce; cardstock – Bazzill; wire binding – Bind-it-All; ribbon – American Crafts, SEI and Wal-Mart, extra-large eyelets – We R Memory Keepers; alphabet stickers – Lil’ Davis Designs and American Crafts

~ “Boo-tiful” Halloween Minibook & House

{Click on the picture for a closer look at the three different Fiskars punches used on the cover–Leave it to Weaver, Threading Water, Give it a Swirl.}

I love Halloween!  I couldn’t wait to finish this minibook and matching house and share it with you.  This is my second Bind-it-All project and I think I’m getting the hang of my new tool!  (Lea’s lesson–Don’t try to cram too-thick materials into your BIA if you want it to work for you.)  Though I love straight lines, I like the challenge of making odd-shaped projects like this one using a chipboard album from Crafty Secrets.  This mini is pretty full with pockets, acrylic tags and hanging cardstock tags.

~ Wedding Card

I have a wedding to go to today and realized that I need a card!  Just made this card this morning to match the Engagement Mini Album a few posts down.

The little words are actually cut from the strips of the patterned paper you would normally discard.  How’s that for using your resources?  I used two Fiskars punches – Threading Water border punch and Read Between the Vines border and corner punch.

~ Engagement Mini Album

A son of a dear friend of ours from Naples, Italy, is getting married in a couple of weeks.  Instead of getting an impractical gift for the two young lovebirds, we’ve decided to give them a gift they can use (money always works, right?).  Along with the monetary gift, I wanted to give Manny and Nancy a small mini album to scrap and journal a few of their engagement photos.

Stuff:  paper collection, chipboard, chipboard stickers – Cosmo Cricket; rings – 7 Gypsies, extra large eyelets – We R Memory Keepers; grungeboard – Tim Holtz; flowers – Bazzill; paint – Making Memories

~ Trading Card Mini Album

Who said you have to put baseball cards in those sturdy plastic collector sleeves?  I re-purposed 10 sleeves  into a solid little mini album.  Each of the “cards” is 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 (more or less) — about the size of an ATC — cut from Bazzill Bling and covered in Cloud 9 Sunrise Smoothie.

Click on each picture for a closer look.

Stuff:  cardstock – Bazzill; pattened paper – Cloud 9; ribbon – American Crafts

~ Live Laugh Love Minibook

Wow!  Has it really been a week since I last posted?  Bad Lea, bad!  So here is my latest, a 5×7 inch minibook which smacks of Tim Holtz (in a good way, of course!)  I was inspired by Irene’s alcohol-inked leaves.  I alcohol-inked a full 8×10 transparency and used pieces of it throughout the pages.  It has very little in the way of embellishments as the Cosmo Cricket paper, tags and sayings are perfect.  About the only additions are the stamping and Fiskars border punches.

 Click on each picture for a better look!
